I guess it’s time for some more Bonk Wave, as it has been quite a while. This time, the Bonk Wave crew has been busy remixing their favorite tracks from the previous 3-part album.
This resulted in 13 great re-imagined versions of Bonky tracks, including 2 remixes by yours truly.
I had a go at remixing the (IMO) funniest track of the previous release, Bonkitty. For some reason, the vocals on this track made me think of a specific Venetian Snares track, and so I was waiting for the chopped-up breaks to come in at any time. They didn’t. So I figured I had to give it a shot and see if I could make that track I was hearing in my head.
The vocals are pretty much untouched, with a heavily chopped breakbeat behind them. I also slapped a gritty synth melody on it for variation, et voilà . A breakcore inspired remix of Bonkitty is a thing.
The second track is a remix of Traiken’s Transistor Heaven. A great track, and I particularly liked the heavily distorted crescendo at the end. I figured I’d go for distortion as a theme and crunched the drum stems massively. When going through the stems from the track, I loved the organ sounds used and picked the ones I had the strongest response to. Again, some extra distortion to give it some more grit, and we had the base of a remix. The choppy drums in the intro and outro was a happy accident. I misconfigured the sequencing of the drums with the sampler module at some point. It sounded great, so I kept it. I love when that happens.
I thought the track might be a bit too distorted/loud at first, but then I found out Traiken is a NIN fan as well, so he loved it.
For this release, I also had the pleasure of herding the Bonk cats to bring this release into the world, so I hope you like it.
